Lois Hopwood Drawing residency at Bleddfa September 2017 with the Presteigne Festival and story teller Michael Harvey
Local artist Lois Hopwood plans to make a series of big Landscape drawings in the Bleddfa Gallery during the week 18th – 22nd September .
Lois says “As an artist I have learnt that process is an important way to get into my work. I find the practice of drawing therapeutic, my guess is that it’s quite close to meditation. During the week I will be working on a series of drawings made large by projecting them on to paper pinned on to the walls of the gallery. By keeping it simple for the first three days I hope to achieve a cycle of work to show at the end of the week!”
Visitors will be welcome to come and see the work in progress and meet the artist on Friday 22nd September.
This week coincides with the Presteigne Festival Schools project when the great teller of Welsh Story , Michael Harvey will be working at the Bleddfa Centre with the three Primary Schools of Knighton, Presteigne and New Radnor
As artist in residence Lois will be able to show the students her work and she will join them on a recce : when they will walk , research , photograph and collect as they develop their story with Michael .
In October Lois will be working with these same groups of students in school to develop a visual interpretation of the stories they have created with Michael at Bleddfa.
In the spring of 2018 the gallery will open at Easter with an ‘Exhibition of the Story’ created by the children of these three schools
