Traditional Slip carving was a technique used to decorate English earthenware pots and vessels in the 18th Century. It produces a lustrous dark brown and golden surface design.

The day begins with drawing a design on a pair of test tiles, we have lots of reference books. Learn the easy decorating skills of scraping away the top layer of white slip to reveal the brown earthenware below, similar to Sgraffito .  After coffee move onto putting your design onto an earthenware jug.

Second course is a short two hours on a Sunday morning . This combines throwing practice mixed with the Japanese handbuilding technique Kirinuki . Kurinuki is the shaping a solid square of clay and then hollowing out the centre. This is a very enjoyable technique to do.
